Lt.-Gen. Hon. Sir Charles Stuart was born in January 1753. He was the son of John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute and Mary Wortley-Montagu, Baroness Mount Stuart of Wortley.
He held the office of Governor of Minorca in 1798, which he had taken. He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.).
He died on 25 May 1801 at age 48.
On 19 April 1778, he was married to Louisa the 2nd daughter (and co-heiress, with her sister Albinia, Countess of Buckinghamshire) of Lord Vere Bertie, 3rd son of 1st Duke of Ancaster.
