Andrew Stewart was born in 1560. He was the son of Andrew Stuart and Margaret Stewart.

He became General of Artillery and Edinburgh Castle. He was granted lands in 1611 in County Tyrone, Ireland, extending to some 3,000 acres. It was at An Chraobh, Muintirevlin that he built a castle.[1] Around this castle of the new owner grew what is now the village of Stewartstown.

In 1615 he sold the lands and titles of Ochiltree to his cousin James Stewart of Killieth and was made 1st Baron Castle Stuart 7th November 1619.

He is the ancestor of the Earls of Castle Stewart through his third son, Robert Stewart of Ivry.

He passed away in 1629.

Marriage

Andrew Stewart was married to Margaret Kennedy, the daughter of Sir John Kennedy of Blairquhan Castle, Ayrshire, on 8 August 1587 in Scotland.
