Biography

Thure Wilhelm Ström was born on February 8, 1825 in Calmar, i.e Kalmar parish in Kalmar län, Sweden.

He was a customs officer/sjötullsvaktmästare (vaktmästare vid Sjötullsverket) in the town and sea port of Västervik in Kalmar län (Småland province).

He married skipper's daughter Josephina Johanna Euphrosyna Hjorth on December 7, 1851 in Västervik parish, Kalmar län, Sweden.[1] They had two children:

  • Johan Thure Wilhelm Ström b. 1852. He went to sea in 1873. Notes as "in Africa" up until 1882, when he disappears from Swedish records.
  • Siri Alma Johanna b. 1854. Married in Sweden and had one daughter.

Thure Wilhelm passed away aged 30 from consumption/lungsot (tuberculosis) on February 10, 1856 in Västervik.[2] He left his wife and his two children aged 3 and 1 years old. His wife passed away from the same illness in 1863 and their children were orphaned aged 10 and 8. They were raised by his wife's brother and sisters.
