Biography

Caspar Steynmets was probably born before 1610 at Schiedam, The Netherlands. He married first before 1645 Dorothea Aestans , he married second at Reformed Dutch Church, New Amsterdam, on 31 March 1652 Jannetje Gerritse, daughter of Gerrit, . Caspar Steynmets married fourth before October 1693 Ariaentje Gerrits van Huysen. Caspar Steynmets died circa 1702 at Ahaismus, Bergen Co., New Jersey

Origins

Various sources disagree on Caspar's origin. He was either from Schiedam in the Netherlands, [1] or he was from the area now known as Germany, possibly Berlin. [2][3]
Caspar did belong to the Lutheran community in New Amsterdam and signed a petition along with other representatives of the "Augsburg Congregation" concerning non-contributing members of the congregation and the promised preacher. [4] Further supporting the idea that Caspar was German are that he had a surname and that at least three out of the four of his wives appear to have been somewhat German as well: Janneken came from Zutphen, which was located in Westfalia in 1570; Tryntje Jacobs, whose origins are unknown but whom had at least two other German husbands; and Ariaentje van Huysen - Huysen, Denmark at the time, now in northern Germany.

Answering my own question, the will of Guert Gerritszen Van Steenwyck, quoted in the profile here: http://njgsbc.org/files/BCFamilies/BCFam-Steenwyck.pdf

makes a very compelling counter argument in favor of his sister being Caspar's wife.

Is the wife Jannetje here the wife 'van Zutphen' in the New Amsterdam marriage record?

Hi Glenn,

Steynmets-8 and Steynmets-7 appear to represent the same person because: duplicate import. Birthdate about 1611 Thanks for your help :)
