Joseph was Crow.

Joseph Stewart was born about 1863 in Montana, United States, son of Thomas Stewart (~1854– ) and Goes Yellow Crow (~1858– ).

Joseph was sent to Carlilse Indian Industrial School in Carlilse, Pennsylvania from 17 Nov 17 1883 for 5 years discharged 29 Jul 1890.

"Student file of Joe Stewart, a member of the Crow Nation, who entered the school on November 17, 1883, and departed on July 29, 1890. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating that Stewart was working as a carpenter and farmer in Hardin, Montana, in 1910. In school documentation Joe Stewart is also known as Joseph Stewart and Bah-so-is-ce-nae-pash."

In the 1900 census he (age 29) was the married head of household in Crow Reservation, Custer, Montana, United States.^[2]

In the 1910 census he (age 39) was the married head of household in Crow Indian Reservation, Rosebud, Montana, United States.^[3]

In the 1920 census he (age 49) was the married head of household in Big Horn, Montana, United States.^[4]

In the 1930 census he (age 59) was the married head of household in School District 17 Paragon, Custer, Montana, United States.^[5]

He, son of Tom Stewart & Goes Yellow Goes Yellow, died (age 76) on 24 Dec 1949 in Crow Agency, Big Horn, Montana, United States^[6], and he was burried in Crow Agency Cemetery in Crow Agency, Big Horn, Montana^[7].
