Joseph Stewart was born about 1863 in Montana, United States, son of Thomas Stewart (~1854– ) and Goes Yellow Crow (~1858– ).

Joseph was sent to Carlilse Indian Industrial School in Carlilse, Pennsylvania from 17 Nov 17 1883 for 5 years discharged 29 Jul 1890.

The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating that Stewart was working as a carpenter and farmer in Hardin, Montana, in 1910. In school documentation Joe Stewart is also known as Joseph Stewart and Bah-so-is-ce-nae-pash."
