Biography
Dan Stephens was born in Gloucestershire, England.
- Dan Elijah Stephens was born in 1847 in Tibberton, Gloucestershire, England, the eldest child of William Stephens and Tabitha (Holford) Stephens and was baptized November 28,1847.[1] In 1860 his family had moved from Tibberton and were living at Woodgreen Cottage, in Bulley Parish while they were building their own home. By about 1870 he was an apprentice miller and bought the Dursley Cross Steam Mill where he milled flour.[2]
- He married Isabella (Browning) on April 30, 1874, in Longhope, Gloucestershire, England, and they had three children, Evan, who was killed during World War I.[3]and Owen and Percy.
- Dan died in 1898 in Longhope, Westbury on Severn, Gloucestershire, England,[4]at the age of 51, and was buried in Longhope, Gloucestershire.
Research Notes
- In 1982 I went to Gloucestershire, England and researched my Stephens family. There I met a cousin, and we searched parish records together. Also he gave me names of other family members and we traveled the area together so he could show me the neighboring villages where our families had lived. We visited Dan Stephens' flour mill in Dursley Cross, which was purchased by Mr. Pritchard, the butcher. It was a great visit.
