Biography
Katharine was the second daughter of James Wilberforce Stephen and his wife Katharine Rose Vernon. She was born on 1 August 1860 in East St Kilda, Victoria, Australia.[1]
The Argus reported: "BIRTHS. On the 23rd inst., at Merton, East St. Kilda, the wife of J. W. Stephen, Esq., barrister-at-law, of a daughter."[2]
She died in 1878, aged 18, in the registration district of Kensington, Middlesex, England.[3]
A death notice in the Melbourne Argus reported: "STEPHEN.—On the 1st ult, in London, Katharine Vernon, second daughter of the Hon. Mr. Justice Stephen, aged 18 years."[4]
