Biography

Louis was the son of Louis Stengel and Catherine Kniphals (could be Knuphals). He was born in Davenport, Iowa, though some records indicate that he may have been born in Illinois. His father died when Louis was only 4 years old. His mother remarried Charles Wolff.

Louis married Jennie J. Jordan on February 4, 1886 in Davenport. Jennie was born in Iowa in 1863. They had three children: Louise born in 1886 and an older brother Louis Grant born in 1887 and Charles Dillion, known as Casey, born in 1890. All the children were born in Missouri.

Louis worked as a collection agent according to both the 1900 and the 1910 US Censuses.

By the 1920 Census, Louis was a manager at a sprinkler company in Kansas City. All three children were living at home.

Son Casey would go on to become an outfielder and later a manager in Major League Baseball.

Louis died in Kansas City Missouri in 1940. He is buried at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City.
