Abel Steley^[4] Abel, the eldest son had worked with the rest of the family when they were cutting pit props - he had a team of 14 horses he used for carting the logs. He later worked in the mines for many years. He was keenly involved with the Howard Golf Club during its years of operation. He and his wife had a daughter, Clarice Marguerite and a son John Abel. John married his cousin Elizabeth Maria daughter of Leah Hawkins, who had first married a man named Fletcher. John and Elizabeth had two children.

Abel died on 3rd October 1950 and his wife on 16th August 1952 - They are both buried at Howard Cemetery.
