Not much is known about Edmund Statham, who is not found in any records as Edward to my knowledge other than Virkus's The Compendium of American Genealogy, which is apparently the source of the birth information reported for him. The Virkus entry was undoubtedly supplied by Edmund's presumed descendant Mary Beaumont Statham. Did her research turn up records corroborating her claims, or was it based on family oral tradition that was handed down to her? It's impossible to know as the record does not say.
In a review of numerous resources for Northumberland County, Virginia, where Hugh Statham was found beginning in 1663, no mention was found of an Edmund or Edward Statham. These resources are listed in Hugh's profile and a summary of abstracts mentioning Hugh has been uploaded to his page.
In a search of finding aids, the numerous county records compilations available from Ruth and Sam Sparacio through Antient Press (now owned by Heritage Books), have only one mention of Edmund Statham (index page has been uploaded), which points to an Essex County deed he witnessed on 27 Dec 1692.
The only other record so far found for Edmund was the one referenced in the Virkus entry, his role as purchaser at the sale of Cope D'Oyley's personal estate on 19 Nov 1702 in York County. He was also one of the securities for another purchaser at the sale.
No evidence has been found for the claim that Edmund married a Miss Lawrence, as Virkus also pointed out.
