Caleb Spencer (Spencer-611), born July 20, 1713, the son of Robert and Theodosia (Whaley) Spencer of Rhode Island married 1st 1753 Elizabeth Woodcock and married 2nd Elizabeth Spink, the widow of Peleg Spencer. Caleb’s children, by his first wife, were Elizabeth, Barbary, and Robert.
Caleb’s nephew, Caleb Spencer (Spencer-7763), born December 27, 1750, the son of Michael and Abigail (Closson) Spencer of Rhode Island married 1778 Jerusha Covell of Chatham, MA. They lived variously in Frederickstown, NY and Fishkill, NY, and had at least eleven children including Platt Rogers Spencer, the famous calligrapher. After Caleb died his widow, Jerusha, took her family to Ashtabula, Ohio which was on the frontier in 1810
