George Washington Spencer was born on March 8, 1826 in Cheraw, Chesterfield, South Carolina, United States, son of Oliver Hawes Spencer (1800–1872) and Sarah Jane Adams Causey (1803–1883).

George (24) married Anne Eliza Robeson (17) (born on July 10, 1833 in Chesterfield; daughter of Maj. Thomas William Robeson and Mary (Ford) Roberson) in 1851 in Chesterfield. Their children were:

George died on December 8, 1910 in Cheraw, aged 84. He was buried in Evans Family Cemetery, Chesterfield, Chesterfield County, South Carolina.[1]
