Biography

Bethia Snow was born on 01 July 1672 at Eastham, Plymouth Colony, the daughter of Stephen and Susanna (Deane) Snow.[1]

She married John Smith on 14 May 1694 at Eastham. He was born Eastham 26 May 1673, the son of Samuel and Mary (Hopkins) Smith and died in Chatham before 25 February 1717/18.[1]

Bethia Smith died probably at Chatham after 31 July 1734 when she was said to be living at the time of her husband's estate settlement.[1]

The children of John and Bethia (Snow) Smith were:[1]

  1. James Smith, b. 13 Feb 1694/5 Eastham; d. 27 May 1696 Eastham.
  2. Samuel Smith, b. 25 May 1696 Eastham.
  3. Dean Smith, b. ca. 1698.
  4. Mercy Smith, b. probably between 1698 and 1702.
  5. Mary Smith, b. ca. 1702.
  6. John Smith, b. ca. 1703.
  7. Stephen Smith, b. ca. 1706.
  8. Bethiah Smith, b. ca. 1708.
  9. David Smith, b. ca. 1711; living in 1734; n.f.r.
  10. Seth Smith, b. ca 1713.

Note: Bethia (Snow) Smith may have married for her second husband, Joseph Lord at Harwich on 16 November 1743. He was born Charlestown on 30 June 1672 and died at chatham 06 June 1748. He was the son of Thomas and Alice (Rand) Lord. Joseph's first wife was Abigail Hinckley, married at Barnstable on 02 June 1698. Joseph Lord was a minister at Dorchester, South Carolina and at Chatham, Mass. He graduated Harvard in 1691 and was called Rev. Joseph Lord of Chatham. It is more likely that he was married to Bethia (Howes) (Hawes) (Smith), widow of another John Smith of Eastham, the son of John and Hannah (Williams) Smith.[1]
