Biography

Vernard Roy SMEDLEY was born on 24 May 1900, at Montague, TAS. His mother was Eliza Ann SMEDLEY.^[1]

1921 - Vernard SMEDLEY of Montague was a witness at the inquest into the death of James KELLY when the two men were felling trees on Woolnorth, for VDL Company. Smedly felled a tree, which knocked a dead tree and Kelly was severely injured when a branch of dead tree fell on him. Inquest found: Accidental death; with no blame attached.^[2]

Vernard married Delia Catherine BOURKE, on 19 November 1927, at Stanley.^[3]

1928 - Australia, Electoral Rolls, Darwin Circular Head - West Montague: Delia Catherine Smedley (no other Smedley)^[4]

1929 - Mr and Mrs. Vernon Smedley, who left West Montagu some time ago, are now residing at Kimberley.^[5]

1938 - Mr. Vernon Smedley, of Melbourne, former resident of Montagu, is again residing in the district.^[6]
