Biography

Adela Kathleen BOURKE (later, mostly known as "Delia Catherine") was born on 25 June 1902, at Sassafras. Her parents were George Sylvester BOURKE, farmer, of Sassafras, and his wife Mary Anne (COOK) BOURKE. Her birth was registered by her older sister, Annie BOURKE.^[1]

Delia Catherine BOURKE was married at Stanley, on 19 November 1927, to Vernard Roy SMEDLEY (generally known as Vernon Roy SMEDLEY).^[2]

Delia and Vernon had four children.

1928 - Australia, Electoral Rolls, Darwin Circular Head:
West Montague: Delia Catherine Smedley (no other Smedley)^[3]

1929 - Mr and Mrs. Vernon Smedley, who left West Montagu some time ago, are now residing at Kimberley.^[4]

1938 - Mr. Vernon Smedley, of Melbourne, former resident of Montagu, is again residing in the district.^[5]

1954 - DEATH of BROTHER: BOURKE. — On October 8, 1954 at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Frank Michael Bourke. of 45 Pitt -street, Carlton. Loved brother of Harry (Tasmania), Albert (Tasmania). George, Lena, Alice, Ella and Delia (Mrs. Smedley), late 1st A.I.F. Requiescat in pace.^[10]
