Biography

Thomas Slater is Notable.

Thomas Slater was born in North Carolina.

Dr. Thomas Heathe Slater was a physician, who along with his partner and fellow classmate Dr. Henry Butler, became the first African Americans to obtain a pharmacy license in Georgia. Together they opened Atlanta's first African American owned drug store, Butler & Slater Drugstore.

Thomas was born in 1865 in North Carolina to China Slater and Nancy Slater.

He was a graduate of Lincoln University and Meharry Medical College. Began practice in Atlanta, Georgia in 1890. He was the superintendent of the Fair Haven Infirmary, Atlanta's first Black hospital.

Thomas married first Marie (Unknown) Slater. They had one child, Thomas H. Slater, Jr.

His second wife was Celestine Bass Phillips, whom he married in Nebraska in 1907.^[1] She passed away in 1950.

He died in 1952^[2][3] and is buried in the segregated section of Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta in Fulton County, Georgia.^[4]
