Biography

Parents Duncan Sinclair and Ann 'Nanny' Campbell.^[1] Place of residence when (our? see research notes) Mary was born: "Barglas, Muckairn, Arygyl Scotland". Barglass is shown on this map of Muckairn [1].

Married Duncan Lamont June 4, 1826 in Muckairn or Glasgow.^[2]

Children: Dugald, Donald, John, James, Duncan, Niel, and Catherine.

In 1841 they are living in Balindore (also found on the map above). Absent is husband Duncan, but we can presume he is not dead because Mary is listed as 'woodcutters wife'. Son John is on this census, but not the later ones. Mary also was not listed on 1851 and 1861 census records (Duncan's new wife Margaret listed).

Research Notes

Potential parents Duncan and Ann married Feb 4, 1798, but children were born to a Duncan Lamont and an Ann Campbell in Muckairn before that time, Sarah and Betty are two.

More, later, offspring: Isabella 20 Nov 1798 Duncan Nov 19, 1801 or June 28 1802 Ann (Nanny) Dec 11, 1803 Margaret (Peggy) April 29, 1804

And there's a Catherine Sept 2, 1806?? Obviously not a sib of our Mary, born within a month of each other. This tells us that there were two Duncan Sinclair and Ann Campbells having children in Muckairn at that time, which needs to be sorted out.

Another possible birth record? Mary, daughter of Donald Sinclair & Janet Campbell, was born on 18 August 1806 and baptised in Muckairn, Argyllshire, Scotland.^[3]
