Biography

Alice (Sherben) Atus is a part of US Black heritage.

Alice Burton "Berta" Sherben was born free, probably in Columbia, Maine, about 1807. ^[1] or 1811. ^{[2] [3]} She was the daughter of Benjamin Sherben, a free Black man. ^[4]

She married in Columbia, 19 Oct 1836, John Atus, as his second wife. ^{[4] [5]}

She and her family lived in Machias, Maine. ^{[2] [1] [3]}

She died in Atusville, Machias, Maine on 6 January 1877, ^[4] and is buried in the Court Street Cemetery. ^[6][7] Lived at Machias.
