Alice (Sherben) Atus is a part of US Black heritage.

Alice Burton "Berta" Sherben was born free, probably in Columbia, Maine, about 1807. [1] or 1811. [2] [3] She was the daughter of Benjamin Sherben, a free Black man. [4]

She married in Columbia, 19 Oct 1836, John Atus, as his second wife. [4] [5]

She and her family lived in Machias, Maine. [2] [1] [3]

She died in Atusville, Machias, Maine on 6 January 1877, [4] and is buried in the Court Street Cemetery. [6][7] Lived at Machias.
