Biography

John Atus is a part of US Black heritage.

John Atus was born free in Atusville, Machias, Maine on either 1 August 1797. ^[1] or 23 September 1797.^[2] He was the son of former slave London Atus and Eunice Foss, a woman of English ancestry. ^[3]

He married before 27 Dec 1819 (birth of daughter, Betsy), Frances "Fanny" Davis. His second wife was Alice Burton "Berta" Sherben, whom he married in Columbia, Maine on 19 Oct 1836. ^{[4] [5]}
