Bio Sketch Soloman Shaw was born in 1804 in North Carolina, He moved to Gibson County, Tennessee in 1820 and was one of the first settlers of the small town called Brazil (around 75 miles northeast of Memphis and 130 miles west southwest of Nashville). Soloman was a farmer, a baptist preacher and involved with the Masonic Lodge. He founded the Old Beluah Chuech between the towns of Brazil and Eaton. Around1836 he built a flour and grist mill called Shaw's or Quincy's Mill on the middle fork of the Forked Deer River. In 1841 he was one of two men appointed to build a courthouse at Trenton in Gibson County. He became a well to do merchant and farmer and lived on his plantation called Quincy. By the time that the civil war broke out he had an estate of 4,722 acres with many slaves and several town lots in Eaton.
During the Civil War Gibson County was a supply depot and a Union stronghold. Soloman was a staunch supporer of the Confederacy and as a prominant citizen was diliked by the Federals. On September 22, 1862 two soldiers in disguise came to his house and shot and killed him. His son Solomn was pistol whipped before his daughter, Asenath, shot and killed both of the assailants.
Today much of his former lands are in Crockett County , Tennessee which was split off from Gibson County in 1872 after his death.[1][2]
Birth Solomon was born in 1804 in Wake County, North Carolina. [3][1]
Marriage Solomon marries a "Mrs Brassfield" in February of 1830 in Gibson County Tennessee.[4] The marriage produces:
1840 Census Living in Gibson County, Tennessee. The household consists of three males; one 10-14 (Marion Clay), one 15- 19 (?) and one 30- 39 (Solomon) and five females; two under 5 (Emily & Mattie), two 5-10 ( Louisa Clay & Domethra) and one 30-39 (Martha).[9]
1850 Census Solomon is living in the Quincy Hotel in Gibson County Tennessee. Solomon's occupation is a merchant and farmer and he owns real estate valued at $30,000. Other family members at the Quincy Hotel:

Note: Soloman may have owned the hotel as his plantation is also called Quincy.
Tennessee Central Railroad Solomon was elected to the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Central Railroad in 1853.[12]
1860 Census Living in the 4th District, Gibson, Tennessee with with spouse, two children, mother in law, Nancy (Ward) Edwards and six others. Solomon lists the value of real estate owned as $94,140, an astounding value for the time.
Death Solomon was killed on 22 September 1862 at his home in Gibson County, Tennessee by two disguised federal soldiers. His son Solomn was pistol whipped before his daughter, Asenath, shot and killed both of the assailants .[2] He is buried in Quincy Cemetery, Quincy, Crockett County, Tennessee.[15]

Solomon's Father Solomon's father isn't currently documented. There are several other Shaws living in Gibson County in the census records that may be relatives.
1830 Acey and Simpson Shaw are listed on the same page of the census indicating that they lived in proxinity. Zacharih Shaw is also on the 1830 Census.
1840 Census has 12 other Shaws; Simpson, S,H, Nancy, Wm, Hugh, Benjamin, Lucy, Hesky, Jonathan A, James, Joseph and Wire.
