Biography

Ella Elizabeth Scouten was born in March 1851 in New York, United States.

In the 1870 US Census for Mitchell, Iowa Ella is listed as a "hired girl" in the household of Samuel and Levina Henderson and their two children ages 7 and 4, who were all listed as being born in New York.

Also on this same census page there is a listing for a Mary Buel, age 45, wife of Issac Buel, age 50, who are both listed as being born in New York.[1]

We know from mtDNA testing that Ella Elizabeth Scouten and Mary Jane (Andrews) Buel were a close relation as they have a 0 genetic distance match and are part of mt haplogroup K1a4a1a3.[2]

Both of her parents are listed as being born in New York in the 1880 Census.[3]

However in the 1930 US Census for Portland, Oregon Ella listed her parents birthplaces as Holland for her father and France for her mother.[4]

She was married to Leander Hoskins Miner on the 4th of April 1871 in Mitchell, Iowa.

Later she lived in Ferndale, California and then moved to Portland, Oregon.

She is buried in Ferndale with her family.
