Biography

Margaret (Schwarzkopf) Redding has roots in the region now known as Hessen, Germany.
Margaretha was born on January 10 or 16, 1834 in Urberach, Hesse-Darmstadt, the daughter of Johann Adam Schwarzkopf and Katharina Wunderlich. She was baptized Roman Catholic on 17 January 1834. [1]

On August 2, 1853 at the age of 19, she married American-born Nicholas Vincent Redding in Urberach. [2] They arrived to the U.S. by 14 March 1854, when their first son Adam Vincent Redding was born in Baltimore city. They settled in Cumberland Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania by the time their second son Joseph Charles Redding was born in December 1856. They remained in Cumberland Township through into 1870, [3] [4] then moved to Bellefonte, Centre, Pennsylvania before their daughter Lizzie was born in the early 1870s, and lived there until at least 1880. [5]

She later moved back to Adams County at Straban Township [6], where her husband died in 1898, and she lived until her death in 1907. She was buried in Saint Francis Xavier Cemetery, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. [7]
