Biography

Joseph Redding has roots in the region now known as Hessen, Germany.

Joseph was born in 1856 in Cumberland Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania near Fitzer's Schoolhouse[1]. He was the second child of ten by Nicholas Vincent Redding and Margaret Schwarzkopf. He was the son and grandson of immigrants from Urberach/Ober-Roden, Hesse-Darmstadt. He continued to live with his parents and siblings in Cumberland Township through at least 1870.[2][3]

He likely married Agnes Hemler on October 9, 1883 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg. They were the parents of 12 children, 10 of whom lived to adulthood.

In 1891, he was serving as the County Commissioner for Adams County[4]

He may have lived in Philadelphia in 1895. [5]

He lived in Cumberland Township from at least 1900 until his death in 1925.[6][7][8]

He passed away on March 11, 1925 at the age of 68 in Cumberland Township, near the place that he was born. He was buried at St. Francis Xavier cemetery, Gettysburg.[9][10]

Hello, could you please add Mark Leo Redding Sr (Redding-1563) as Joseph's son, with mother Agnes Cleopha Hemler? Or add me to the trusted list. You can see the connections on FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/about/L5Y8-DGY) or we can connect on Ancestry so I can show you my research. Thanks

I just added Mark's profile to Joseph's family. Please let me know if anything looks off. If you would like to be on the trusted list, I would be glad to do so. I think I would need your email address to do so.
