Biography

Unsourced Ancestry tree claims father to be Hartman Schreiber (his father Christopher Schreiber), mother Catherina Schnelle married Nov 7, 1671 in Aschersleben, Germany. Another says born Nov 8, 1686 in Aschersleben. Several sources (including 'Roller Note' in the Karlsruhe Archives, research sourced from 'Old Sqyre Schreiber... ' published by Woodchurch Village Life Museum) say that Johann Samuel was from or born in Aschersleben, Germany. (Although, Aschersleben is almost 500km from Durlach where he married and had his children).

There is a baptism record for a Samuel Schreiber born 1682 in Winnenden, Wurttenburg to Jerg (Goerg?) and Anna Catharina Schreiber. Winnenden is not too far from Durlach (about 100km). Another child of Goerg and Anna Catharina Schreiber is Johann Daniel born 1676 in Uhlbach, Württemberg, Germany (about 20kms from Winnenden). We know from the 'Roller Note' in the Karlsruhe Archives as seen in 'Old Sqyre Schreiber' that Samuel had a brother Daniel who was a 'sattler' in Waiblingen who died (?) in 1713 (and Samuel's first son likely is named for this brother)

Lending strength to the Hartmann parentage another record for a Daniel Schreiber: baptism1698 Pommern, Father: Erdtmann Schreiber, Mother: Catharina, City or District: Szczecin, Author: Evangelische Kirche. Sankt Jakobikirche Stettin.

A couple of interesting genealogical message board posts looking for information might POSSIBLY add or confirm information about the origin of Johann Samuel's son Karl Schreiber who emigrated to England, IF TRUE:

1. "I am looking for Schreibers who were Jewish. I believe they lived in Frankfurt before 1700 and then moved to Durlach, Karlsruhe, Baden. Given names are Johan Samuel and Anna. I am descended from their son Johan Karl who emigrated to England...."<[1]>

2. "He was naturalized by the British Parliament in 1754 and married an English woman. His parents were from Frankfurt am Main and were John Samuel and Anna Schreiber"<[2]>

Frankfurt for Samuel and 2nd wife Anna's later life seems possible, it's 135km away (in the direction of Aschersleben) and is the nearest city baring Stuttgart.

Marriage 6 Feb 1713 in Durlach. Samuel Schreiber? from Aschersleben? married Genoveve?, widow of ??? Stephan.[1]

Occupation Probably a furrier ("Kürschner"). Baptism record of son Samuel says he was a Kirsner (hard to decipher). [2]
