Jacob was a Roman Catholic.

Jacob Schimpf has roots in the region now known as Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.

Jakob was born on December 24, 1823 to Franz Schimpf & Magdalena née Schimpf,^{[1] [1]} in Schaidt, Pfalzgrafschaft bei Rhein, Bayern (now in Germany). He was baptized that same day at the Catholic church in Schaidt^[1] with his uncle Jakob Schimpf and Elisabetha Zilcoz(?), wife of Valentin Vogel, as godparents.^[1] Jakob immigrated to the US with his parents at the age of 11 years old.

About 1846, Jakob married Mary (unknown last name) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was about 23 years old. In the span of 3 years, they had at least 2 children together: (1) Elizabeth Schimpf & (2) Marianna Schimpf. Mary passed away before/around 1851.

About 1851, Jakob married Catherine Gast, he was about 28 years old and she was about 25 years old. In the span of 10 years, they had at least 5 children together: (1) John A. Schimpf; (2) William M. Schimpf; (3) Charles L. Schimpf; (4) Alfred Schimpf; (5) George Clarence Schimpf. Catherine passed away on October 25, 1863.

On March 5, 1867, Jakob married Frances Hinger in Muskingum, Ohio, he was 43 years old and she was 23 years old. In the span of 16 years, they had 7 children together: (1) Agatha Magdalina "Maggie" Schimpf; (2) Henry Bernard Schimpf; (3) Michael Edward Schimpf; (4) John Michael Schimpf; (5) Frank Joseph Schimpf; (6) Franziska Katharina "Katie" Schimpf; (7) Klara Maria "Clara Mary" Schimpf.

Jakob was a Rope Maker.

Jakob passed away at the age of 63 years old on June 3, 1887, in Newark, Ohio.
