Biography

Notables Project
Pope Honorius IV Savelli is Notable.

Giacomo was born in 1210. He was the son of Luca Savelli. He passed away on 3 April 1287 from either gout or a stroke at the Savelli palace on Aventine Hill, Rome[1].

Wendy Reardon[1] writes:

He was so paralyzed when he was elected that he could hold the host only with help, most likely a 'mechanical device of wood." His obsequies were performed at his family fortress on the Aventine; afterwards, his body was brought with much ceremony to St Peter's. His marble sarcophagus was placed in a beautiful mausoleum ...located in the north transept of St Peter's. ... only to be destroyed during the beginning phases of the destruction of St Peter's in the sixteenth century... the remailing sarcophagus was moved to the Savelli chapel in the Church of our Lady of Aracoeli in Rome in 1545. There they were placed over the sarcophagus of Honorius's mother, Vana Aldobrandini and near his brother Pandolfo and his father, Luca Savelli.

Research Notes

This profile is being updated by the Popes Project.

The age difference between his sister Maria and himself is more than 60 years (He was born in 1210 and Maria was born in 1285). I have saved any way because I didn't link the two as siblings and don't currently have the time to resolve this issue. It will be placed on the Pope's Project as an issue requiring resolution.

I’ve changed the birth date of his sister (Changed her name to Marilla too) to make the difference more acceptable but still not sourced.(Smith-129141 02:40, 30 July 2018 (UTC))
