The estate of Samatan, associated with Godefroi de Samatan and his descendants, was an ancient fief of the Comté de Comminges, the town now being Samatan in Gers, about 50 km southwest of Toulouse. The historic town of Muret, now Muret in Haute-Garonne, is to the east of Samatan, about 25 km southwest of Toulouse.

His granddaughter Bernarde's marriage contract of 1139 - written in Ecclesiastical Latin as was traditional - refers to property being given by her parents (Bernard and Dias) with their three sons (Bernard, Roger and Dodo de Samatano) to Bernarde and her spouse, Roger of Béziers (historically called Baeterrae): [6]
Godefroi was also referred to in the 1139 contract - as Godafredus de Murello. His father was referred to as Petrus-Raymondi in connection with the properties of Samatan (Samatanus), as well as the tower and castle of Murello (turrem et castellum de Murello) - individuals and estates subject to the domain of the groom's father, who was Bernard Aton, Vicomte de Béziers: [6]
