Biography

Mary Ann was born 18 September 1862 in South Molton, Devon, England, daughter of John Routcliffe and Mary (Furse) Routcliffe. Her surname was incorrectly spelled as "Rowcliffe" on the birth registration. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

Mary Ann's family lived on Pilton Street in Pilton, Barnstable, Devon in 1871. Her father was a Shoemaker. ^[2]

In about August 1883, Mary Ann married George Inkerman Kingdon in Barnstaple. ^{[4] [5]}

Mary Ann, George, and their children lived on Rock Hill in Pilton, Barnstaple at the time of the 1891 Census. George was a House Mason. ^[6]

Their address had been changed to 42 The Rock, Pilton East, Barnstaple by the 1901 Census. Neighbours James Cornish and family remained nearby at 44 The Rock. ^[7]

When the 1911 Census was taken, George was a Boarder with the family of John Symons Cornish at 7 Hillside Cottages, Upton Road, Torquay, Devon, while Mary Ann and the children remained in Barnstaple at 54 Littabourne. ^{[8] [9]}

By 1939, Mary Ann, George, and Georgina lived at 54 The Rock, Barnstaple. George had retired. ^[3]

Mary Ann died about November 1943 in Barnstaple at the age of 81. ^[10]
