Sir John Rogers was born at Bryanston, Dorset, England. [1]
He married Katherine Weston, daughter of Sir Richard Weston and Anne Sandys; They had 16 sons and 4 daughters. [1][2][3]
Secondly, he married Elizabeth Essex Darell, widow of Sir Edward Darell (d. 1549). "The marriage with Rogers, is evidenced by a deed at the Rolls Office, dated Feb. 6, 3 and 4. Philip and Mary, (1557) concerning a lease of Kingston and Thrupp in the parish of Ramsbury. "John Rogers of Bryanstone, Co. Dorset, and Dame Elizabeth his Wife, late wife of Sir Edward Darell of Lytlecote."
History of Parliament does not mention his marriage to Elizabeth Essex in their bio of him. [4]
John died on 16 August 1565 at Bercote, Berkshire, England and was taken to Blandford for burial. [1]He was at the house of Lady Essex (presumably his new mother-in-law) when he died.[5]
Research Notes
Sir John Rogers may be related to Capt. Woodes Rogers. An effort is underway to investigate this possibility.
