Biography

John was a Friend (Quaker)

John Ridgway, son of Timothy and Michel (Johnson) Ridgeway, was born in Sussex county, New Jersey, August 8, 1792. Reared to farm work, he went with his father in 1812 to Harrison County, Ohio, where he married Ruth Nevitt in 1818. The couple settled in Harrison County on wooded land which he cleared. In 1833, they moved to Wayne County, Indiana, near Dublin, and in 1837, to Madison County, Indiana. There they settled upon a tract of three hundred and twenty acres and eventually possessed eight hundred and forty-five acres. Most of this he cleared and used for general farming on a very large scale. His children were: Abijah J., Lydia, Daniel, Catharine, Richard, John, Ruth A., Rudolph and Jane. He passed away in 1844.

From: Find A Grave memorial # 85189492. John is buried in Friends cemetery, Fall Creek Township, Madison County, Indiana. He had 9 children and 5 brothers (all listed and linked on his memorial page).

Ridgway-133 and Ridgway-424 appear to represent the same person because: Ridgway-133 had a son named Abijah whose information matches the son attributed to Ridgway-424 and there is no significant conflicting information.
