Biography

Marguerite Richard was born about 1677 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, daughter of Michel Richard (abt. 1630–bef. 1689) and Madeleine Blanchard (abt. 1643–bef. 1683).^[1]

In 1686, at Port Royal, Marguerite, aged 7, was living with her father, Michel RICHARD, age 56, and her stepmother, Jeanne BABIN, aged 18. Also living with her were four siblings from her father's first marriage to Magdeleine [sic] BLANCHARD: Martin, aged 19, Alexandre, aged 17, Marie [recte Marie Josephe], aged 12, and Cecille [sic], aged 10. The 5 other siblings (Rene, Pierre, Catherine, Anne and Magdeleine [recte Madeleine Elizabeth]) from her father's first marriage who are married and unnamed in the census are recorded elsewhere in the 1686 census with their spouses. The youngest in the family was her half-brother Michel, aged 2 (the son of her father and Jeanne BABIN). The family owned 2 guns, 12 arpents of cultivable land with 16 cattle, 30 sheep and 8 hogs.^[2]

Marguerite (20) married Jean LeBlanc (23) (born about 1674 in Port-Royal; son of Jacques LeBlanc and Catherine Hébert) in 1698 in Acadie.^[1] Their children were:
