Biography

Anthony Reitz, known familiarly as "Tony", was born on 28 Mar 1899 in Oswego, Oswego, New York.^[1][2] He was the son of Albert Rizzo/Reitz and Rose.

Anthony married Anna Corradino on 26 Nov 1922 in Oswego, Oswego, New York.^[3]

Anthony was fatally injured in a car accident near Long Branch, New Jersey while on vacation with his son, James, and James' wife and child. He passed away at a hospital in Loch Arbour, Monmouth, New Jersey on 8 Aug 1969.^[2] Anthony was buried at Saint Peter's Cemetery in Oswego, Oswego, New York.^[4]

Census Enumerations

1905 Oswego, Oswego, New York Tony (age 7) lived with his parents at 148 West Albany Street in the city of Oswego, Oswego, New York. His paternal grandparents and siblings also lived in the home with them.^[5] Tony's age is off by a bit in this census.

1910 Oswego, Oswego, New York Tony (age 10) lived with his parents and siblings at 10 Babcock Street.^[6]

1915 Oswego, Oswego, New York Tony (age 16) lived with his widowed mother and siblings in his paternal uncle, John Reitz's home at 152 West Albany Street. This is a strange entry because Tony and his siblings were identified as John's children, and Rosa was identified as John's wife. The census taker must have misunderstood the family relationship. Or perhaps John and Rosa did become involved for a time. By 1920, Rosa and her younger children had moved in with her married daughter, Christina (Reitz) Maniccia, and Rosa was identified as being widowed - which she was, from Albert Reitz.^[7]

Research Notes

The year of birth inscribed upon Anthony's headstone (1898) appears to be off by 1 year. Anthony's WWI draft registration card^[1] and the Social Security Death Index^[2] indicates that Anthony was born on 28 Mar 1899. This is consistent with US censuses and his marriage license.
