Biography

Samuel Francis Reitz, known familiarly as "Sam", was born on 3 Nov 1902 in Oswego, Oswego, New York. He was the son of Vincenzo Rizzo and Anna Russo.

When he was sixteen years old, Samuel attempted to register for the draft of World War I by providing a false birthday (i.e. 2 Sep 1899, age 19). We can be sure that this record pertains to Samuel because he identified his brother, Joseph Reitz of 185 Liberty Street, whom he lived with, as his next of kin - which is precisely where Joseph lived at this time. Samuel was already working at the Standard Oil box shop by this point in time.[1]

Samuel worked as a machine operator for the American Insulation Manufacturing Company in Cleveland, Ohio for several years.[2]

Samuel passed away on 14 Apr 1964 at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Williamstown, Oswego, New York.[2] He was buried at Sandy Creek Cemetery. Samuel was survived by his brother, Joseph Reitz, Sr., of Oswego; and two sisters, Mary Sarris of California and Anna Pasquin of Utica, New York.
