Biography

Mary Lavina Reid was born on 6 Mar 1858 in Sackville, Westmorland, New Brunswick, daughter of Capt. John Gideon Read (1826 - 1907) and Mary Jane (Tower) Read (1829 - 1912).

Mary (24) married George Edwin Lockhart (22) (born in Rockport, Sackville on 6 Mar 1860; died on 3 Nov 1927), son of Morrel Barter Lockhart and Claris Louise Ward, on 6 Feb 1883. Their children were:

  2. Augusta J Lockhart (1886 - 1887)
  3. Senara (Lockhart) Horsman (1888 - 1953)

Research Notes

"Mary Lavinia is the dtr of my great great grandfather John Gideon and his wife Mary Jane Tower. I have information from Janet Harnett of the US and my cousin (she may have got it from her) that Mary was born in Conneticut. However I have no documents to prove such a claim. John Gideon was born in Conn. I have the source as his death certificate. The family did go back and forth and so I probably should look for him on a US census." - Sharon Reid on FB
