John Read was born about 1864, son of Capt. John Gideon Read (1826 - 1907) and Mary Jane (Tower) Read (1829 - 1912).

John (~26) married Pheobe Annie Ward (~19) (born about Feb 1871; died in 1929), daughter of James L. Ward and Lavinia Cole, on 30 Jul 1890 in Sackville, Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada. Their children were:
