Biography

Strother Redman lived in Virginia.

Strother Redman is a part of US Black heritage.

Strother Redman was born about 31 July 1847 (see Research Notes) in Virginia. He was the third of seven children born to Virginia natives David Redman and Elizabeth Bruce.^[1][2][3][4]

In 1850, he was 3 years old and living with his family in Hardy County, Virginia.^[1] In 1860, now 13 years old, he remained living with his family in Hardy County. He was not attending school but did not have an occupation either.^[2] By 1870, 23-year-old Strother had moved with his family to Welton Township in Mineral County, West Virginia, where he worked as a farm laborer. Along with the majority of his family, he was unable to read or write.^[3]

Strother never married. On 22 November 1871, he passed away from consumption in Mineral County.^[4] His burial location is unknown.

• The age at death (23 years, 3 months, 22 days) on Strother's death record would make his birth date 31 July 1848. However, census records point more towards a birth year of 1846/1847, so I have listed 1847 as the approximate birth year on his profile. - Martin-46788, 6 Feb 2021 (5:08pm NZT)
