DEATH OF LADY SUSAN BROUN.
The death took place at Colstoun on Saturday of Lady Susan Broun, the representative of an East Lothian family dating their connection with the county for the last six centuries or more. The last male inheritor of the name was Charles Broun, whose daughter Christian, his only child and heiress, was married in 1805 to George Ramsay, Earl of Dalhousie. By this alliance the estates of Coulston passed, through his wife, into the possession of Lord Dalhousie. Earl George was succeeded by his son, the late Marquis of Dalhousie, Governor-General of India. At his demise the Marquis left the old family possessions of the Brouns to his daughter, Lady Susan Broun Ramsay, whose death is now recorded. Deceased was married to the Right Hon. R. Bourke, M.P., afterwards Lord Connemara, whom she ultimately divorced. She afterwards married Dr Briggs, of the Indian Medical Corps, who took the name of Broun. Lady Susan, as the heiress of her father, came into possession of most, if not all, of the magnificent Indian furniture, military equipment, and articles of native manufacture collected by him when Governor-General of India. The mansion also contains the famous Colstoun pear. Deceased had no children.- Scotsman.[3]

Her will was proved on 12 September 1898 at London to William Hamilton Broun. Effects: £25679 14s. 8d.
