Biography

Violet Marion Morrison (née Pung) was born out-of-wedlock on 30 April 1912 in Rochester, Monroe, New York to German-Americans Joseph Albert Pung, a U.S. Navy sailor originally from Wisconsin, and Margaret E Kroeckel. She was baptized as Maria Anna Violet Pung on 7 June 1912 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Rochester. Her parents married two days after her baptism, legitimatizing her birth. She had a younger brother, Robert, who passed away as an infant.

They lived in Rochester at 104 Commercial Street until late-1918, when the family moved to and permanently settled at 28 Schanck Ave. Upon being discharged from the service, her father worked variably as a conductor, polisher/buffer, and plumber before ultimately obtaining employment as a laborer/custodian at the U.S. Post Office on Commercial Street and becoming a union member of Rochester Lodge 162, American Federation of Government Employees.

She married Leland Ray Morrison of Plankinton, Aurora, South Dakota on 27 June 1933 in Towanda, Bradford, Pennsylvania. At this time, she was working as a stenographer. Together Leland and Violet had five children, all born in the Rochester area. They first lived briefly in the City of Rochester, then moved to Fairport where their stay was also limited. They moved into Wayne County, then finally settled in a duplex in the Town of Torrey in Yates County.

Violet passed away on 27 April 1939 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan, Yates, New York due to childbirth complications and was buried on May 1st in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester.
