Goals

This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about one surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect.

Scope

  • The scope of the project is to put all the correct profiles (decendants) of John Skeel/Skeels or possibly Skeele of Connecticut into WikiTree and verify with sources what we believe to be factual. The project begins 14-Jun-2020 and will end 21 Dec 2020 or maybe extended if not completed to the satisfaction of the team.

An American Skeels Reunion was held in 1998 in the state of Washington. There the Albertans met new cousins.

As a result of that Faye Skeels Gergen put together her Skeels genealogy. "This is information given to me. Three brothers, Chester Justic, Harvey W., and Wil l iam L., sons of my great great grandfather, Harvey Robert Skeels came west from Illinois by Railroad to San Francisco in 1874. From San Francisco they traveled by boat to Portland, Oregon. Grandfather Chester Justic homesteaded a piece of land across the Willa ette from Albany and about one mile from the river. Great Grandfather made his home there until he passed away in 1913 at the age of 80.

For sometime I have been working on my families-Dewald/Weidner, Ensminger/Enzi and Frasch/Knittel. (German-Russian Families.)

For my husband I will be working on Frasers and Smiths of Aberdeen, Scotland; the Vaughan (Welsh) and Briggs family that pertain to Mary Viola, wife of Frank Edward Skeels.

I now wish to stay with my husband's direct lines: Frank Edward Skeels, Nelson Skeels, Rueben Skeels, Truman Skeels, Samuel Skeel, John Skeel Jr and John Skeel Sr.

I am finished with the lines of John Skeel I of Connecticut. Thanks to Edythe Wilson Thoesen, The Skeel Family of Connecticut, 1959, Chipman Skeels, Samuel Alvabel (1st tree 1853), Charles W. Skeele (need to find family) and many more genealogists too numerous to name.

Thanks to everyone who will or have contributed.

Of course I will always accept any messages as manager of Skeel/Skeels/Skeele/Skeeles name study. I expect names to appear from Cambridgeshire Chatteris England and Denmark too. There are always other families with surnames spelled e.g. Skiles, Skules, and depending on the country can be quite different.

Sincerely, Sharon Skeels

Good job Kirt.

Sharon is so happy that the Lines for John Skeel of Connecticut have been completed. John 1647-1721.

Now William Skeels came in the 1800s. He first fought for England, then fought with the colonists and brought his family to America.

Dr. Willard Skeels, a pastor, came in the 1960s from New Zealand and wanted to know more about his American cousins. Dr. Willard Skeels found John Skeel’s or Skell’s Record of Baptism in England.

Then Dr. Wilbur Skeels connected with Dr. Dorr Skeels a geologist whose research took him to A Library in England as well as Chatteris Cambridge, England. Many letters were written between family members of this family. That being the extended family of Sharon’s husband.

Because Chipman Skeels had 8 pages of long foolscap and very detailed, his Bibliography would go a long ways on pre-1700. (1906-1931-6Th Edition).

Sharon cannot say Isaac is one of ours as he came from England to Maryland.

Sharon cannot tell who Charles W. Skeele was, who completed a family chart 5 April 1945. Can anyone confirm his ancestors perhaps through DNA? Sharon noticed on ancestry.ca Search his Records were blocked.

Kirt and Veronica and Paul and Sharon would love to hear from distant relatives. There will be omissions. (June 2020).

Sincerely, Sharon Skeels
