Biography

Jonas was baptised at Hartshead, Yorkshire, on 25 March 1699, the son of Joseph Priestley.^[1][2]

He married Mary Swift on 11 May 1732 at St Peter, Felkirk, Yorkshire "Jonas Priest (sic) of Birstal and Mary Swift of this parish".^[3] The couple lived at Fieldhead, Birstall, and had several children there, but Mary died in 1739.

Jonas married Hannah Wilson in Halifax, Yorkshire in 1741. "January 15. Jonas Priestley, Birstall, (illegible), clothier & Hannah Wilson, Halifax, widow"

She was a widow. Two possibilities for Hannah's birth name are:

Hannah Webster born around 1705 in Northowram, just outside of Halifax. She married Joseph Wilson in Halifax in November 1731. Joseph died in Northowram in 1736. He was a clothier.

Hannah Carlton born around 1700 in Southowram, close to Halifax. She married John Wilson in Halifax in June 1720. John died in Southowram in 1739. He was a clothier.

Jonas Priestley ... He passed away in 1779.^[4]
