George is the son of Thomas Poole and Mary Bonsor. He died age 46 Kingston upon Hull Yorkshire England.

George and his wife Jane lived in Upper Broughton for some years. Their first 3 children, all girls, were born there between 1873 and 1877. A fourth daughter was born a short distance away at Melton Mowbray in 1879. In early 1881 the family was again living in Upper Broughton. Hard times must have made it difficult for George to support his growing family by working his trade, (bootmaker) in 1881 he was working as a platelayer on the railway and moved his family to Hull. George had a total of 12 in his family.

Tragically George Poole was killed while working on the railway. He was working early morning, it was dark and snowing and he ws hit by a locomotive engine. He was only 47 and left Jane with eight children under 14 years old. Not surprisingly, the twins Herbert and Annie (aged about 6) were placed in the The Railway Servants Orphanage at St Barnabas, Derbyshire, where they are recorded (aged 12) in the 1901 Census.

There is a family story that the brothers were known for going to the fairgrounds to box for money 96 pence a fight). No doubt this was a way to bring in extra money after the death of their father.
