Biography
Elizabeth (Pont) Crouch was born in Brightling, Sussex, England.
Elizabeth Pont was born in the third quarter of 1841 in Brightling, Sussex, England to George Pont and Fanny Gower.[1] She was baptised on 12 Sep 1841 at St Thomas a Becket church in Brightling.[2]
She lived with her parents in Brightling until her marriage.[3] [4]
in 1863, Elizabeth gave birth to a daughter:
- Frances Ann Pont (1863-1926)
Frank Roberts, labourer, was summoned for contribution to the support of the illegitimate child of Elizabeth Pont of Brightling. Complainant stated that in August, 1862, she was living at home, and defendant was a servant of Mr. Nightingale's when they became acquainted. He came to see her at her father's house, and they used to go walking together, on which occasions the intercourse took place. The child was born in May 1863. ... An order was made ...[5]
While she was still living at home, she had two more children:
- Harriett Elizabeth Pont (1866-1939)
- Hannah Maria Pont/Crouch (1868-1949)
Elizabeth married Stephen Washington Crouch on 28 Jan 1870 at St Thomas a Becket church in Brightling.[6] [7] They had five children:
- William George Crouch (1871-1886)
- Charles John Crouch (1873-1956)
- Lydia Matilda Crouch (1875-1947)
- Agnes Minnie Crouch (1877-1940)
- Henry James Crouch (1879-1879)
They settled in Brightling to raise their family.[8] [9] [10] By 1901, they had moved to Netherfield, Sussex.[11]
Elizabeth Crouch died in the last quarter of 1909 in the district of Battle, Sussex.[12] She was 68 years old.
