Biography
Celestine (Polleman) Bellinger is a part of US Black heritage.
Celestine was born in 1879 in Texas.
She married Charlie Bellinger in Caldwell County, Texas in 1896.[1]
In 1910 Celestine and Charlie were living with 3 children in San Antonio, Texas where Charlie was a saloon proprietor.[2] In 1920 they were still in San Antonio with 5 children in the household.[3]
Charles became a very wealthy businessman, owning a variety of businesses and real estate, and became active in local politics in San Antonio.[4] His actions resulted in many improvements for the African-American neighborhood in San Antonio.
Celestine and Charles divorced sometime prior to his death in 1937. They had had twelve sons and daughters, with only five children surviving to adulthood.[4]
In 1950 Celestine was living with a son in San Antonio.[5]
She passed away in Bexar Counnty, Texas in 1963. [6] She was buried in Saint Peter Claver Cemetery.[7]
