This enterprising young man worked as a steam-fitter at the Alkali works for a number of years. Having been apprenticed in th bakery trade, in his youth, he decided to enter the business here, some fifteen years ago. The business has grown steadily until it is now one of the biggest bakeries in the county. Specializing in Finnish and Swedish baked goods, as well as Amrican, this bakery has won a county-wide trade. In addition to a bakery, the Pohto store includes a grocery, which is highly patronized. Charles Pohto served several years on the Fairport Council, and was also a member of that official body when the water plant legislation was instituted and carred through. That village administration, 1932-35, always saw Charles Pohto in active volunteer service whenever a trip to Columbus or Cleveland was necessary. Charles gave much of his own time for the ultimate successful building of the municipal plant. Today he takes an active part in all civic movements and has confidence in the future growth and prosperity of Fairport.

Born May 30, 1892, in Ylistaro, Finland, he lived in Fairport most of his life. He operated the bakry for several years before closing it during World War II. He was a member of the Fairport Police Department for several years. HE was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Fairport: Temple Lodge No. 20 Free and Accepted Masons, Painesville; and the Elks Lodge NO. 549, Painesville. Survivors include his wife, Lempi; two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Doris) Berwaldt of Painesville an Mrs. Ralph (Phyllis) Kruse of Willowick; two sons, C Edwin of Sacramento, Calif and Rodney of Painesville; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by 17 brothers and sisters. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Eagle and Fifth streets, FAirport, with the Rev. Wayne W Niemi, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Chruch Cemetery, Fairport. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Friday at the Potti Funeral Home, 538 Fifth St.k, Fairport.
