George was born about 1817 in Saffron Walden, Essex.

George Pluck and Emma Butcher were married at St Michael the Archangel, Braintree, Essex on 10th February 1840^[1]. They were bachelor and spinster, both aged 23 and living in Braintree. George was a cordwainer and the son of John Pluck who was also a cordwainer. No information was recorded about Emma's father. They each signed their own name on the register^[2].
