Eliza was born on March 31, 1800 somewhere in Upper Canada. One source suggests she was born in Toronto Gore Township but this is unlikely as Toronto Gore was not created until after the 1818 land purchase from the Mississauga First Nations.
She married William Ward on August 20, 1840 and they moved to Reach Township. Reach Township no longer exists but it was a township near or on the shores of Lake Scugog. (William's first wife, Ann Woodill, dies in 1835.)
Eliza dies on March 20, 1855 in Utica, Ontario. Utica is just west of Port Perry (which is on Lake Scugog) and north of Oshawa. She is buried in the Kendall Cemetery, Utica.

[1] Information is from Pauline Franzen's family tree -- "The Halls and the Wards of York County, ON. Canada" at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=hall-ward&id=I2323. This web site has Eliza born in Toronto Gore Township, Peel County which is unlikely as the township was not created until after 1818 and the first land auctions only occured in 1820. Further, Peel County was not created until 1851. The first census data available (1852) shows no one by the name Philips in Toronto Gore. However, there are 16 people with this name in Chinguacousy Township (the next township to the west).
