Did one of his sons have a son named Andrew Phenis or Phenes? I have an Andrew Phenes born in 1765 in Montréal, Quebec, Canada. He had 3 Children. His first child, a son, was born in 1805 in Steuben Co., New York. His next child, A daughter, was born in Ontario, Canada in 1809. His last child, a daughter, was born in Canada in 1813. Andrew and his small family moved to Catharine, Tioga, New York, United States by 1820. He and his family were residents of Catlin, Tioga, New York in 1830. He and his family were residents of Caton, Steuben, New York, USA in 1840. His wife Mary passed away in 1840 in Steuben County, New York, at the age of 70. Andrew passes away in 1841 in Caton, Steuben, New York at the age of 76.

How certain are we that his last name is Phenis? Since his last name is Dauphine when he was buried, how does he have the last name of Phenis?

I am interested in the Phenis last name, because I have some ancestors that were Phenis'. I was unaware of the French and Quebecois connection, but it makes sense now that I see where my Phenis ancestors were born.

If anyone is working on the Phenis line, please contact me at [email address removed]
