John Perry, son of John Perry, a clergyman who died in 1621, was born at Farnborough, Hampshire, England ca 1604. His year of birth is estimated based upon the 1621 commencement date of his apprenticeship, assumed to have been at his age 17.[1] He was apprenticed in November of 1621 to John Lawson of the Clothworkers Company of London. John married Johanna Holland at a time and place not yet located. The marriage is confirmed by her father Joseph's will naming "my son-in-law John Perry, his wife, my daughter, and their sons John Perry and Josias Perry, and daughter Elizabeth Perry." [1] They had three known children:[2]
In early September 1666, the Great_Fire_of_London demolished large sections of the City. It's probable that the Perry family decision to emigrate was predicated by the loss of property and livelihood. Watertown as the chosen destination may have been selected because his brother-in-law Nathaniel Holland was already there.[3]
