Biography

Jesse Williamson Peeples was born 1813 and murdered 1856.

• He served as a member of the Douth Carolina House of Representatives, representing St Peter Parish.

• The Find-a-Grave page, cited below as a source, includes a transcription of his "last and only dying words" as follows:

"Lay me down. Alfred Martin has cut me and stabbed me to pieces".

• The transcription is accompanied by a photograph which apparently shows the full inscription. However, due to a combination of the inappropriate positioning of the sun and corrosion of the stone, this is not readily legible.
