Biography
Jean was born in Edinburgh and lived there throughout her childhood and young adulthood. However her father died when she was only nineteen and left the family in straitened circumstances, so Jean left Edinburgh to work as a governess in China for the Aglen family. While she was there she met her future husband William.[1] Returned in her mid-40s with her husband to live in Edinburgh for the remainder of her life.
Her name is on the Rutherford gravestone in Grange Cemetery, Edinburgh, a short distance from her Peden relatives.
